MLK Week of Service 2024

January 26, 2024

We are thrilled to share the incredible success of our recent Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Week of Service event hosted by The Volunteer Center of the Triad. This event was not just a celebration of Dr. King’s legacy but a powerful testament to the impact that a united community can make.

Embodying Dr. King’s Vision

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Everyone can be great because anybody can serve.” Inspired by these powerful words, The Volunteer Center of the Triad organized The 15th Annual MLK Week of Service with the aim of honoring his legacy through impactful community projects.

A Tapestry of Achievements

Thanks to the unwavering support of our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners, we achieved remarkable milestones during the event:

  1. Beautiful Community Art Piece: A testament to unity, creativity, and collective effort, our community art project turned out to be a stunning representation of the shared spirit that brings us together.
  2. Essential Kits for Those in Need: Through our signature event, we met our goal of completing 2,000 toiletry kits, 2,000 snack packs, and 2,000 first aid kits, 40 no-sew blankets, and 200 greeting cards. These kits will make a significant difference in the lives of individuals facing challenging circumstances. The list of nonprofits that received the kits are listed below.
  3. Nonprofit Information Fair: Twenty incredible nonprofits, including The Volunteer Center of the Triad, participated in the fair, connecting with the community, fostering collaboration, and raising awareness about their impactful work.
  4. Food Donations: Over 500 pounds of food donations were collected for Greensboro Urban Ministry, contributing to the fight against hunger in our community.
  5. Kindness for King Award: Congratulations to Davidson Early College High School on being selected as the 2024 recipient of the Kindness for King award!
